TIPS FROM OUR AWARD WINNING PHOTOGRAPHER JIM MCGINNIS

What to look for in a wedding photographer?

When looking for a wedding photographer you need to first understand exactly what you need. When photographing a wedding many types of photography are used. Photojournalistic photography helps tell the story. Portrait photography captures posed shots of the bride and groom, as well the the bridal party. Event photography captures the groups and emotion at your reception. All these types of photography require different skills. Knowledge of lighting for portrait types, knowledge of lenses and camera speeds for photojournalistic type, and of course being in the right spot at the right time for event type.
Make sure when speaking with a photographer you can see they have a well rounded portfolio to insure they are the right fit for you. A great wedding photographer is not someone who simply has a few incredible portraits in the portfolio, but yet a very diverse portfolio showing knowledge of all types of photography.

GETTING GREAT IMAGES – TIP for the customers!

Getting great images, first starts with creating great files to print them from. Some wedding photographers run around with cameras that have a small sensor, rather then the larger full frame sensor that a seasoned pro would be using. Do not be afraid to ask your photographer about his equipment. Trust me we like to brag about our equipment!

Make sure that if you are getting files to print from that they are still sized rather large so you can make wall prints if you like. Some photographers and or chapels will simply give you a 5 x 7 sized image. When you increase the size of this image it will distort at times.
